State of the Finger-Wagging Union

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 7.40.51 PMI knew Barack Obama was going to be our president when I saw his speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and I knew I was going to be ecstatic voting him into office. My heart exploded the day of his inauguration, and not just because he was our first president of color though that in itself was amazing. But I don’t have such a clearcut feeling this time, and it’s stressing me out, especially since everyone around me is feeling the Bern or, um, #iswithher. Something about Sanders sticks in my craw–the Bernie Bros don’t help, the self-righteous finger-wagging doesn’t help, the outsider-insider mishegos that would be more recognizable if it were eminating from the right doesn’t help. And Hillary, well, Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 7.40.26 PMI’m sorry, but I consider her a shit show. A real status-quo enforcer who’s been playing the game so long she doesn’t know compromise when it’s biting her on the ass. Given her penchant for horse-trading, it’ll actually depress me if she’s our first female president. That said, as whacked as our two-party system is, come November, I’ll vote Democrat no matter what, Sarandon be damned. The rights of everyone in this country, this environment–this world, really–are resting on that.
