New moon, new moon, new moon! I haven’t been this excited for a moon in a dog’s age, and it’s appearing in hyper-controlling Virgo just as ocean god Neptune opposes Mercury and Mars in Virgo, and Venus sits pretty in this sign as well. What does it all mean? That this lunar cycle is less about tossing what doesn’t work and more about making cozy, clean order out of what does–even if it’s as nebulous and dreamy as Neptune himself. I complain about Virgo all the time, but the truth is she’s the healer of the zodiac. We feel safe and seen under her g-d-is-in-the-details gaze even when we rebel against the boundaries she sets.
I don’t know about you, but something is lightening in me that’s been miserable and tense all year, as if if not even our Evil Empire administration can penetrate the sweet bounty of this fall. It doesn’t hurt that I’m perched by the sea, the ideal place to honor lady luna, but I think it’s bigger than that. All new moons are ideal times for setting goals and making affirmations, but as this one dovetails with the Jewish new year, she billows with extra good wind. Tonight I will venture to the beach, Masshole mermaid style, and ask for help in my most daunting creative endeavor to date. If you have time in the next 24 hours, I suggest also sitting by some water (maybe even in your tub). Set some goals as well. I wish us all hot cross buns, sweet-sweet apples, and just enough bitter horseradish to keep us balanced as we sail into this beautiful beginning to a year. G-dspeed and L’shanah tovah, Sirenaders.
