Happy happy Stevie Wonder Day! I worked so much today that I was tempted to let his birthday pass without mention. Then I realized: Not honoring his birthday would be downright disrespectful. For in his music and message of love, he generously godparents all of us who need raising. With intergalactic expertise and joy and innovation, he has for six decades created beautiful shared space with a brilliant disregard for form, format or obstacles. More than that, he’s offered a flawless model of how the Divine Feminine need not be channeled by a female body (cis- or otherwise). For in his body (of work) thrives the radical receptivity, creativity, and limitless loving-kindness of Venus. Even his saddest songs hold us—maybe hold us best—and always always he reminds us that there is more beauty to be found, laughter to spill, solace to be shared. In this moment of great upheaval, he is one of the greatest living channels we still have–one that’s forever lifting us to higher ground rather than leading us by the nose. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Listen to “All is Fair in Love” and try not to cry. Actually, do cry. Because when Stevie offers that level of communion, it’s ungrateful to refuse it.

The Radical Receptivity of the Buddha Moon
If you’re feeling everything incredibly intensely, even for quarantine, you’re not alone. Today is a full moon in Scorpio—a supermoon, no less. Known as the Buddha moon because the Buddha himself died and was born on a full moon in Scorpio, this potent lunar aspect is all about disclosing hidden information to move us toward enlightenment. Normally such a path can be rocky–and since we’re in the shadow of shatter-all-illusions #VenusRetrograde (beginning May 13), it still may be. But while the sun is in Taurus, information is generally delivered in the form our souls most require and desire. So tonight isn’t about willing anything in or out of being. It’s about divining information, guidance, wisdom through signs, sirens, stars. In fact, this whole month is grounded on the Divine Feminine Principle—abundance, radical receptivity, and limitless kindness. So anything not living up to this love is being ushered to the door graciously, so graciously. The real question this moon is tackling: How may we best behave? Dolls, if you unplug your devices while gazing at the sky, you’ll receive plenty of answers.

Of Sinkholes and Safety Nets
Today I was officially approved for Medicaid. I have no shame about it; am just grateful it’s an option. Next year I turn 50 and though I have great faith in my ability to heal through alternative healing modalities I know that if have a health catastrophe it’ll be helpful to have a safety net of some sort.
If I’m being honest it’s been 10 years since I’ve been insured-that’s the time that’s elapsed since I’ve held a salaried job. Since then I’ve I’ve been unwilling to pony up a hefty percentage of my monthly nut for such a broken system. I don’t like bureaucracy. I don’t like western medicine and its incredibly limited scope and solutions. I don’t like hierarchal bullshit of any sort, especially as applied to areas of vulnerability.
When I was in my 20s I underwent a significant health crisis. My lifelong eating disorder had become so protracted that by the time I’d addressed the psychological underpinnings of the disease I’d developed severe autoimmune and digestive disorders. Down to 85 pounds, I’d sustained significant cardiovascular damage and a stomach that no longer produced hydrochloric acid, which meant I couldn’t metabolize nutrition.
Then as now I was un-insured but in the mid-’90s you still could see a doctor if you were willing to pay out-of-pocket. So I ran through the minimal savings I’d accrued as a labor organizer to get shuffled from shitty doctor to shitty doctor–undergoing expensive torture-chamber tests (pro tip: never get a endoscopy without getting knocked out first), and getting prescribed boatloads of medication that severely compounded my issues.
Eventually I took matters in my own hands, cast a spell to manifest the right health allies, and began to work with an osteopath and naturopath who were more effective healers of chronic illness than any western medical specialist I’ve encountered. From this experience I realized that only I fully knew my body and its capabilities. This is a lesson we are never taught, as the displacement of our inner resources–the dissociation from our strengths and self-love–is crucial to capitalist culture. Continue Reading →
